- 発表要約: This study investigates the variety of oral and written texts that serve communication between and among students and teacher in the college English as a foreign language (EFL) classroom in Japan. The view taken is that social life of the classroom, as elsewhere, is constituted by the discursive practices of its members. It is an ongoing project conducted as classroom research where lesson content, materials, and language activities, that is, the mediating technologies of formal schooling, are continuously reinvented or put to unexpected use, often in real-time, according to exigencies of the moment, all the while privileging quality of life in the classroom. Here texts are co-constructed through classroom dynamics and resonate with one another and with other texts across time and place in a process described as intertextuality. In this way, texts and their practices as cultural artifact inform classroom discourse. Important moments of disruption do occur, however. It’s precisely these moments that are of interest in the present study; moments where the participant, student or teacher, hazard to innovate in their language use. During such a moment new information is created and acted upon affording those in the exchange a re-orientation to one another and their ongoing talk.
