- 発表要約: This presentation reports on how critical thinking (CT) theory was applied to create a learner-training program for Japanese university students in order to enhance learner autonomy. CT theory is often used for advanced-level students in classes such as debate, discussion, or essay writing. This presentation describes how CT can be effective in EFL classrooms to promote students’ meta-cognitive awareness to monitor and evaluate their own learning processes. Japanese university EFL students who are between the upper beginner and lower intermediate levels received CT-based instruction on English learning strategies using a portfolio which included basic concepts of SLA theory, learning logs, and a study plan. Bloom’s taxonomy was introduced to the students to raise their awareness about the types and levels of learning that was necessary to acquire a foreign language. The learners had both online discussions (through Moodle) and in-class discussions on topics such as the differences between the L1 and L2 acquisition process, their personal perceptions of the necessity of English and how to control their affective issues. Participants of this presentation will be informed of the instructional sequence, how the portfolio and the online discussions were designed and how the learners responded.
